At my desk at work in my early reporting days. Reporter/Anchor #WGPR-TV 62 #Detroit My dream was to become the best journalist I could be and to help people through telling their stories to the television audience. It’s been a long journey and I wouldn’t trade the lessons I’ve learned and the people who shared their life stories with me for anything in the world.
I finally had a chance to finish this project that I have been working on for a while. One of the first organizations that my foundation - the SHAUN Foundation for Girls - gave a grant to was an amazing nonprofit called Alternatives For Girls in my hometown Detroit. They help rescue girls and women who are victims of sex trafficking. Upon arrival into the shelter, AFG gives the women, what’s called “Survival Kits” filled with everyday essentials - things that you and I would take for granted. So, with the help of my girl Debra Langford, we filled these S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls backpacks with items like a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, lotion, sanitary pads, masks, wipes, pen/notebook, footies, deodorant, a blanket, etc. I shipped them all off to AFG and can’t wait until the women and girls receive them. There are so many people struggling right now and we all can do our part to add a little sunshine into someone else’s life. 💜 p.s. If you know of a business that may help us provide more “Survival Kit” items, please tag in the comments below!
Throwback Sunday: I woke up this morning to a text from Mom. She sent me this picture of the two of us all brightly decked out in our colorful suits. 💚❤️I believe we were at our church in Detroit. Always love getting these pics from Mom. She’s got boxes and boxes of pictures and she will often snap pics-of-the-pics and text them to me.
5 years. 💜Miss you, my friend....not only the late-night parties but the deep conversations, your advice about work, your wisdom, your keen sense of humor and always calling me “Harriet” as in Tubman. Yes, the revolution is being televised. Wonder what you would say? Actually, I already know. You would say, “Be a voice for the voiceless. Keep calm, you’ve got work to do”. Sleep well, my friend. 🙏🏾
I am so proud of this film and excited to be an Executive Producer! I hope you tune in to the premiere of LUST: A Seven Deadly Sins Story on Saturday, April 10th at 8pm/7c on Lifetime!
Easter brunch with VP’s: Vaccinated People. 🐣 It felt so good to celebrate Easter with my girlfriends and a yummy brunch: Denise White, Kynderly Haskins, Carla Peay. We have all had our second dose of, either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Masks were required coming in and going out of the restaurant and tables were, at least, 6 feet apart. We look forward to gathering again with more friends - as we follow CDC guidelines - once they are vaccinated also.
Got my shot! On Thursday, I received my second dose of the Moderna vaccine. Everything with very smoothly. About an hour after I got the shot, I started feeling a little tired so, went home and rested the rest of the day. The next day, I woke up with a sore arm but, other than that, no other symptoms. I feel great but, I’m still going to wear my mask to keep others safe. Hope you got yours! 💉
Video shoot for my new role as Executive Producer of the upcoming Lifetime movies #LUST and #ENVY. We talked about the need for giving more women the opportunity to become filmmakers and the unique perspective that women bring to filmmaking. I can’t wait to bring these movies to you! They are based on the books written by Victoria Christopher Murray. Get your popcorn! 🍿 🎥 #broaderfocus
