Backpacks for Survivors

A BIG “THANK YOU” to the lawyers at Sidley Austin for doing something absolutely amazing for my nonprofit - the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls! 👧🏾 This incredible group packed HUNDREDS of backpacks filled with essentials like blankets, toothbrushes, lotion, socks, sanitary wipes and much more! The purple backpacks were then sent to shelters around the country that house women and girls who are survivors of sex trafficking - Alternatives for Girls, Thistle Farms, Saving Innocence and Beloved Atlanta. These basic items mean so much to the women who, oftentimes, are rescued with just the clothes on her back. I sent a special video message to the Sidley lawyers thanking them for committing time to this incredible project! And a special hug to Lisa Gilford. 🤗 🎒

The Kinsey Collection

Bernard and Shirley Kinsey have amassed one of the largest collections of Black paintings, letters, books and artifacts in the world - the Kinsey Collection. I had only read about it and last night, I got to witness this fascinating collection in person. Wonderful to spend the evening with Bernard and Shirley and their son Khalil - the collection’s curator - as The Kinsey Collection is on tour and currently at Sofi Stadium. The family’s mission has been to teach the next generation what history has erased. I hope you have a chance to go see The Kinsey Collection when it comes to your town. Take the kids! 🖼

Our 6th Anniversary

This is a special day for me…celebrating the 6th anniversary of my passion, my purpose… my nonprofit - the @shaunfoundationforgirls. 💜 My parents always taught me, if God gives you a platform, use it to give back. Beautiful things can happen with you harness the power of women. Throughout this journey, there have been such joys and, many challenges. Our honoree, Lisa Gilford, played a special role in helping me elevate the SFFG to a new level and it was wonderful to give her the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls “Magnolia Award” that symbolizes strength, beauty and endurance. We have a mission to help under-server and underrepresented girls in the U.S. I am grateful for your support. #Philanthropy ~ My work with the United Nations Foundation Girl UP Campaign has been some of the most rewarding work I have done. Oscars

Flashback to #Oscars 2008. 💚 This picture is from one of the four years that I hosted the Academy’s Official Oscar Pre-Show. Dad was my date. He was so excited to be there! I have covered 16 Academy Awards throughout my career when I was host at Access Hollywood. I remember standing on that red carpet, for the first time (years before this picture was taken) and kept thinking…I’m a little black girl from the northwest side of Detroit, Michigan - thousands of miles away from the bright lights of Hollywood. What it took to get me there - at a time when I was one of only a few faces of color on the red carpet - was a dream, hard work, supportive parents and blessings from my Almighty Lord above. As I look at this picture that brings back so many memories, I’m wishing all of my friends reporting from the red carpet and all the nominees “Good Luck!” and a wonderful time at the big show! 🏆
