New Year’s Eve

My family and close friends know that I always kick off the New Year in church! Being there gets me centered, ready to take on the New Year with gratitude and purpose. I was raised in the church in my hometown Detroit, Michigan and in every city I moved to, I always found a church home. My sister-in-law, Carolyn and I attended the New Year’s Eve Crossover Service at Faithful Central Bible Church in Inglewood, CA. ⛪️ It was amazing! I hope this year brings you an abundance of blessings!

Sunday Service

This moment right here ❤️ Standing at the altar with Mom after service, just days before Christmas, feeling all those childhood Sunday mornings wash over me. Sure, there were times I dragged my feet (sorry Mom, Dad, Jacob, Grandma and Mama Ashie!), but every week, rain or shine, we were in these pews. Now? Coming home to Detroit just wouldn't feel right without walking through these church doors with my family. Grateful for the wisdom of my elders who knew exactly what my stubborn heart needed, even when I didn't. This right here? This is my reset button, my shelter, my home away from home. 🙏🏽

My Little Sister

Shouting HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my little sister, Jewel La’Nai!! 🥳🎊Jewel, I love you so much! I’m so proud to be your big Sis! 💝Celebrating you on this special day and also our beloved Daddy who let me name you when you were born! Forever our Guardian Angel! 🙏🏾🕊️ #sisterlove #happybirthday

Nikki Giovanni

“I am a gazelle so swift, so swift, you can’t catch me”. RIP NIKKI GIOVANNI. One of the greatest poets ever. 🙏🏾 I remember being backstage covering an event and chatting with Omari Hardwick when, in walked Nikki Giovanni. With all the stars, we were both excited to see this icon. The last time I had been in a room with Ms. Giovanni is when I was a student at Spelman College and she came to speak to us a read her poem, “Ego Tripping.” An incredible experience. Thank you for blessing us with your talent. ❤️ 🕊️

Arise and Shine

I love giving Shoutouts to my Sisters-In-Philanthropy. My friend Malinda Williams is an actress, author and entrepreneur and also has an incredible nonprofit called the Arise and Shine Foundation. They are doing amazing work for underserved and underrepresented women and girls including a Coding Bootcamp in partnership with HBCU’s. I hope you have a chance to check out their work! Keep shining, Malinda! 💜

My Friend, the Supreme Court Justice

A quick trip to Annapolis, Maryland to attend the Investiture Ceremony of my elementary school friend Peter Killough as he is sworn in as the newest Justice of the Maryland Supreme Court by Governor Wes Moore. Saw so many of my school friends as we all gathered to support Peter. Congratulations Justice Killough!

Quincy Jones

A message today about the loss of a legend. Quincy Jones. What an amazing journey on this earth! Rest in Peace, Quincy. A life well-lived. Thank you for the beautiful music. 🙏🏾🕊️

Meeting Nonprofit Leaders

I loved getting to know the women nonprofit leaders who traveled across the country to join me at the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls’ inaugural SHE Leads: Empowering Nonprofit Leaders for Girls Conference! These pictures are from our Opening Night Reception in Los Angeles and it was a wonderful way to kick off the conference with these ladies - all mission-aligned in our passion to empower underserved and underrepresented girls and young women!

SHE Leads

Incredible things happen when women come together! The S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls’ SHE Leads: Empowering Nonprofit Leaders for Girls Conference was an amazing success! We were Sold Out! This first-of-its-kind gathering brought together women leaders of girl-centered nonprofits from around the country. These are the women who are leading the organizations that help underserved and underrepresented girls and young women. It was an amazing couple of days! This was the beginning of a movement to bring nonprofit leaders together, share best practices and form a community! When one rises, we ALL rise!

EMMY’S

In honor of today’s EMMY’S, I’m sharing this THROWBACK picture of the day I hosted the Official EMMY PRE-SHOW Red Carpet. The EMMY’S are always a lot of fun - much more relaxed than the Oscars. And, Kerry Washington was always so kind and gracious whenever I interviewed her. Fun times! 📺

Happy Birthday, Beyoncé!

Truly, one of the nicest celebrities I’ve ever interviewed! Over the years, I have interviewed Beyonce dozens of times and whenever I have spoken to her, she has always been so gracious, so down-to-earth, so “present” and thoughtful in our interviews. She is someone who always made my job easy and fun. For this interview, I wore this dress by ‘House of Dereon’ - Beyoncé’s and Ms. Tina’s clothing line. B was so surprised when she walked into the room! I had the dress tailored a bit and she noticed immediately and complimented me on how nice it looked. ☺️ Beyoncé is truly a gem. 💎 HAPPIEST of BIRTHDAYS, Queen B! 🎊
